attend school every day. start stay finish strong

Spring is here, bringing warmer weather, and as the school break approaches, we at Newport-Mesa Unified School District want to take a moment to thank you for partnering with your school to keep your child active in their education. Every day of learning is valuable, and maintaining regular attendance is critical to children’s social and academic success.

Consistent attendance reinforces essential learning and strengthens your child’s personal growth. We want to help your child keep the momentum they’ve been building. Studies by Attendance Works show that students who miss just 10 percent of the school year are more likely to fall behind in reading and math. Research indicates that students with higher attendance rates not only tend to have a better grasp of academic concepts—leading to higher grades and increased classroom participation—but they also benefit from stronger relationships with peers and teachers, a greater sense of belonging in the school community, and improved social and overall well-being. Consistent attendance helps students develop responsible habits, stay connected with extracurricular activities, and prepare for future success both inside and outside the classroom.

While we understand the excitement of spring break can make it tempting to start vacation mode early, we encourage you to prioritize your child’s education by making sure they attend school all day, every day.

Thank you for your continued partnership.
