Newport-Mesa is proud to offer Driver’s Education through
Monte Vista Independent Study
Students in Newport-Mesa may enroll in Driver's Education through Monte Vista Independent Study. This course is a DMV-approved course in preparation for a student to take the driver’s permit test at the Department of Motor Vehicles. This course is the classroom portion only and is not the “behind the wheel” course. Topics include driving privileges and responsibilities, rules of the road, factors that affect driving, collision and insurance information, driving under the influence, and distracted driving. Students who complete this course will receive a “pink slip”, valid for one year.
Credit: Students earn 2.5 general elective credits upon successful completion. Credit/No Credit only.
Prerequisites: Students must be 15 or older on the first day of the course to register.
Course Offerings: Offered each academic quarter and in summer school
Format: Online modules through the NMUSD Schoology Learning Management System, with one mandatory weekly meeting with a Monte Vista Independent Study Supervising Teacher.
